About Matthew
A banker's discipline, a controller's judgement.
My career started in banking, where I spent years financing businesses and large-scale property developments. That work taught me how lenders, investors and boards actually read a set of accounts — and how much a clean, well-run ledger is worth when the stakes are high.
For the past ten years I've sat on the other side of the table as a financial controller and bookkeeper for high-growth startups and small businesses — software and SaaS, real estate, art galleries and more. I've built finance functions from scratch, cleaned up neglected books, closed the month on time, and given founders the numbers they needed to make the next decision with confidence.
Having worked across Australian, UK and US books, I'm comfortable with multi-currency, cross-border and multi-entity setups. Now I run my own practice from Melbourne — close enough to be a real partner, cloud-based enough to work with you wherever you are.

How do you price your services?
Most clients prefer a fixed monthly fee based on an agreed scope, so there are no surprises. After our free consultation I'll give you a clear proposal. One-off clean-up or project work can be quoted separately.
Do you work remotely, or do we need to be in Melbourne?
I'm based in Melbourne but work entirely in the cloud, so location is no barrier. I currently support clients across Australia, the UK and the US.
Which accounting software do you use?
Primarily Xero and QuickBooks Online, along with the connected apps that suit your business (for bills, expenses, payroll and reporting). If you're on something else, I can advise and, where it makes sense, migrate you.
Can you handle books across different countries?
Yes. I've worked across Australian, UK and US books, including multi-currency, multi-entity and cross-border setups. I also coordinate cleanly with your local accountant or tax adviser in each jurisdiction.
Are you an accountant or a tax agent?
My focus is bookkeeping and financial control — keeping your books accurate, current and decision-ready. I work alongside your accountant or registered tax/BAS agent for lodgements and tax advice, and can make that handoff seamless.
How do you keep our financial data secure?
I work in reputable, bank-grade cloud platforms with secure access, and I treat your financial information with the same confidentiality I did throughout my banking career. Access is limited to what's needed to do the work.
